Yorkshire born David Walmsley is the author of The Twelve.

He studied screenwriting after having the idea for The Twelve. This shows up in his dialogue and the use of the first-person narrative.

His dream is seeing The Twelve on the big screen.

What David wanted to do with The Twelve is to bring the story of the disciples into a modern setting whilst keeping it as true to the Bible as possible.

David started to explore writing when he had an enforced period of years at home due to knee problems.

He says:

Once you get an idea, a 'what if’ moment, it takes hold of you. You have to tell that story. This is what happened to me. I had to know who they were, why would Jesus include a tax collector and a freedom fighter in the same group? What would keep them from killing each other? The story of the twelve crosses the generations; they had the same feelings, ambitions and doubts as we do today. The fishermen can easily fit into any modern story battling storms on and off the sea.

The more I got to know these characters, their hopes and dreams became more real to me.

I hope you find the story of The Twelve as enjoyable to read as I did to write.”
